CORPORATE OVERVIEW
Nephrogenix is developing novel factor and cell-based therapies for kidney disease.
Nephrogenix draws on the collective research efforts of some of Australias
pre-eminent researchers in the fields of cell and tissue based therapies
and kidney development to develop the next generation renal treatments.
An opportunity exists for cell based renal therapies due to the growth
in the rate of kidney disease. End stage renal disease is increasing
at a rate that is beyond what current treatments, specifically transplantation,
can keep up with due to the increasing aging population, population
demographics and the increasing rate of diabetes.
Nephrogenix commercialises the outcomes from a group of researchers,
referred to as the Renal Regeneration Consortium
based at The University
of Queensland and Monash
University.
Our commercial pipeline will include renal growth factors, stem cell
markers, diagnostics and therapies for the detection and treatment
of renal disease. Novel growth factors are being identified which
have the ability to maintain and expand renal progenitor cells, drive
adult or embryonic stems cells to adopt a renal fate and stimulate
the tissues own regenerative and repair processes. The characterisation
of renal progenitors or the identification of resident renal stem
cells will also lead to the identification of novel stem cell related
proteins. These will act as the new generation of drug targets or
cell surface markers that will assist in the isolation and purification
of stem cell populations. Our long term aim is to develop deliverable
renal regeneration or renal repair strategies using cellular therapies.
Nephrogenix has a number of key strategic
alliances and is interested in seeking alliances with organisations
and partners from the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
Nephrogenix is positioned to become the leading biotech company for
the commercialisation of novel methodologies, cellular therapies,
and therapeutics in renal regeneration.
