Kidney Health Australia
Kidney Health Australia
currently funds a research program conducted by researchers within the
renal Regeneration Consortium which aims to identify, define, isolate and
expand renal stem cells. The long-term goal of this research is to induce
Renal or non-renal stem cells to either regrow a kidney or repopulate a
resident kidney. Whilst still at the early experimental stage, this work,
if proven successful, could be a most significant and exciting advance in kidney
therapy and ultimately lead to a decline in the number of people needing
dialysis and transplantation. Kidney Health Australia
provides a variety of grants and scholarships to support individuals and
groups in Australia
undertaking research into the causes, prevention and treatment of diseases
of the kidneys and urinary tract.

The Australian Stem Cell Centre
Nephrogenix has entered into a collaborative agreement with the Australian
Stem Cell Centre (ASCC). This agreement recognises the research synergies
between Nephrogenix and the ASCC. Both Nephrogenix and the ASCC aim to
foster the translation of cell based therapy research into clinical
commercial outcomes. Both Nephrogenix and the ASCC's core focus is to build
on Australia's
existing expertise in cell based therapies and related platform
technologies in various therapeutic areas to lay the foundations for
delivering of therapies to patients. The ASCC is a major collaborative
initiative including many of Australia’s leading academic
researchers to develop innovative therapeutic products to treat a range of
serious injuries and debilitating diseases. It was formed out of the ‘Backing
Australia’s Ability’ initiative of the Australia Government. The focus of Nephrogenix on the
development of therapies for renal repair or regeneration and repair
coincides and synergies with the aims of the ASCC programs in cellular
therapies for cardiac and hematological disorders.
